AltCap is looking for a motivated individual who has a passion for community development and efficiency to join us as a Operations Intern for the Fall 2026 semester. As a member of our team, you will assist in streamlining and improving various operational processes within AltCap, gaining hands-on experience in research, presentation creation, file organization, change management, and executive support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research federal, state, and local policy topics pertaining to economic and community development;
- Monitor existing and proposed legislation related to organizational priorities;
- Assist with grant research and application processes for federal and state funding opportunities;
- Research and write trend reports and policy memos on economic and community development, entrepreneurial/small business topics, and other topics as assigned;
- Help maintain compliance documentation and contribute to regulatory reporting requirements
- Collaborate with all AltCap staff to develop innovative ideas and outreach initiatives;
- Other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data management tools
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities
- Experience with process documentation and basic project management concepts

AltCap is looking for a motivated individual who has a passion for community development and efficiency to join us as a Communications Intern for the Summer 2026 semester. As a key member of our dynamic team, you’ll help create compelling content that drives our brand message forward. You’ll gain valuable hands-on experience in social media management, content creation, campaign analysis, and stakeholder communications while supporting initiatives that strengthen our community presence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Marketing and Communications team to develop creative solutions to meet AltCap’s strategic goals
- Develop written and multimedia content and campaigns for social media, print and digital collateral and the AltCap websites.
- Assist with AltCap’s economic and community development programming/events
- Research trends in content delivery, economic and community development, entrepreneurial/small business topics, and other topics as assigned
- Pitch, draft, and distribute news releases, media alerts and other stories
- Collaborate with staff on innovative ideas, directions, and channels for marketing and communications
- Other administrative responsibilities as assigned
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to interpret complex issues for public consumption;

Reporting to the CEO, the New Markets Tax Credit & Executive Assistant Intern will play a dual role within AltCap. The intern will support the organization’s New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program — gaining hands-on experience in community development finance, compliance tracking, and deal documentation — while also providing essential executive-level administrative support to ensure the smooth operation for the CEO. This role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented individual seeking meaningful experience at the intersection of finance, nonprofit management, and community development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Executive Support:
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating meetings, appointments, and travel for the CEO
- Help manage calendars and learn to identify potential scheduling conflicts
- Support screening and directing incoming calls, emails, and correspondence
- Assist in compiling data and preparing emails, presentations, and reports under supervision
- Shadow executives to learn professional communication and stakeholder relationship management
- Support task organization and project tracking to ensure timely completion
- Learn to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion
NMTC Program Support:
- Assist with research, documentation, and tracking of New Markets Tax Credit deals and projects under CEO guidance
- Support compliance monitoring by organizing reporting deadlines, gathering required documentation, and maintaining program records
- Help prepare materials for NMTC applications, investor communications, and regulatory filings
- Contribute to data collection and analysis related to community impact metrics and program outcomes
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners (e.g., CDEs, investors, borrowers) to support deal progression
- Assist in the preparation of summaries, presentations, and progress reports for leadership and stakeholder review
- Learn NMTC program fundamentals — including IRS regulations, qualified low-income community investments, and community development entity (CDE) structures — through hands-on involvement

AltCap is looking for a motivated and dynamic Fundraising and Events Intern to join our Programs and Partnerships team. This role will assist the Partnerships Manager with planning, coordinating, and executing fundraising initiatives and events. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about nonprofit work, event planning, and fundraising, and wish to gain hands-on experience in the field. This role will have the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of fundraising campaigns, donor relations, and event logistics while contributing to the success of AltCap’s initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the planning and delivery of fundraising campaigns and events, including donor stewardship and outreach activities.
- Assist in identifying and researching potential donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Support the creation of promotional materials for events, including invitations, flyers, social media content, and email newsletters.
- Assist in coordinating logistics for in-person or virtual events, such as venue booking, vendor communication, guest lists, and volunteer management.
- Help with event setup, on-site assistance, and post-event follow-up.
- Attend team meetings and collaborate with staff on event strategies and fundraising initiatives.
- Help partnerships manager track event budgets, donor pledges, and sponsorship commitments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

AltCap is looking for a motivated and dynamic Data Impact Intern to join our Data team. This role will assist with collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data to measure the social and economic impact of our lending activities. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about data-driven decision making, impact assessment, and community finance, and wish to gain hands-on experience in the field. This role will have the opportunity to learn about impact metrics, data visualization, reporting methodologies, and how quantitative analysis supports mission-driven lending while contributing to the success of AltCap’s initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research and monitor public data sources pertaining to economic and community development;
- Develop, maintain, or contribute to databases and datasets;
- Analyze data and recommend where data can be improved or strengthened;
- Support data collection initiatives led by the Impact Data and Reporting Manager;
- Create data visualizations for internal reports and external Outreach campaigns;
- Research and write trend reports on economic and community development and entrepreneurial/small business topics;
- Collaborate with all AltCap staff to develop innovative ideas and outreach initiatives;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently pursuing a degree in nonprofit management, finance, data analytics, or a related field.
- Possess a strong commitment and interest in economic inclusion and investment in Kansas City’s small business community;

- An understanding of data collection standards and statistics fundamentals;
- Experience manipulating data for reporting, including creating data visualizations;
